Learn to Care

We hold a strong, shared desire for Raysfield Junior School to be a caring community, where all members of the community feel well cared for and valued. It is important that we can enjoy learning within an environment in which we feel safe… even safe enough to make mistakes, for this can often be how we learn best.
Ofsted praised this care for each individual, in saying, “The strong commitment to the valuing of individual pupils shines through... its motto, ‘Learn to care.’... ensures pupils feel valued, cared for and safe. All staff go the extra mile to help and support pupils.”

Special educational needs: Individual needs are carefully met, through the use of a wide range of resources and teaching assistant support; working with both individuals and small groups.

Whilst children will be taught by a number of adults, during the week, their own class teacher remains their main carer and aims to be approachable to all children and parents.

School rules: All rules, are decided upon with the children’s safety and well-being at heart. They can all be summed up in the behaviour code of ‘Raysfield Respects.’ This is what we expect of all members of the school community; children and adults; to respect themselves, respect others and respect the school environment.

We have high expectations and will not allow lack of care or respect to continue. For in transforming lives, rather than filling heads with information, we want to develop each other into people who show respect for all, regardless of similarities or difference.

Ofsted said of the school, “Pupils enjoy school and good relationships with their teachers. Their good behaviour stands out. While a very small number of pupils present challenging behaviour, this is well managed by teachers. Most parents are very supportive of the school’s work and few have any misgivings.”

Charity events: Care for the wider community and the global world community is encouraged through involvement in local community events, such as the Chipping Sodbury Festival, and Charity events; raising money and awareness for those in need. The school’s involvement in the Make Poverty History campaign demonstrates our care for global issues of fairness. Money raised for Diabetes UK and Oxfam, along with food parcels for the Salvation Army and hungry children in Eastern Europe, demonstrate our commitment to care for others in need around the world

Environment: The school belongs not just to its’ leaders, but to all members of the school community. We have a shared responsibility for caring for the school and doing what we can to make it a place we want to be. Through recycling and reusing what we can, we encourage looking after our world, for this also belongs to us all. This has already earned the school the Eco Schools Silver award.
