RAYSFIELD JUNIOR SCHOOL

Admissions
To find out more about the local authority admissions arrangements, please visit:
http://www.southglos.gov.uk/education-and-learning/schools-and-colleges/school-admissions/
There you will be able to find out answers to questions on admissions, as well as ways to apply online for a space for your child at Raysfield Junior School.
During the early part of the year prior to transfer to junior level, parents of children already at Raysfield Infants School will receive a letter giving full details about the transfer arrangements. Parents will be given the opportunity to express a preference for their child's school at junior level, although revised arrangements, automatically presume the children will transfer from linked infant to junior schools, such as Raysfield Infants and Juniors, unless an alternative is requested.
Under the terms of the Education Reform Act 1988, the school's admission level has been set to reflect the capacity of the school. The current admission level (standard number) is set at 60 per year group and the school's capacity is 240.
Should the school be oversubscribed, allocations will be made in accordance with strict criteria as determined by the Local Authority. Officers of the Local Authority handle this process, and confirmation of places will be made in due course.
Admissions & Attendance

Attendance
The school recognises the great importance of regular attendance and the clear impact that absence has upon a pupil’s learning. It sets challenging attendance targets each year and shares a clear attendance policy with Raysfield Infants School.
Sept 2015 to July 2016 attendance target was 97% and the school achieved 96.9%.
Term and holiday dates are notified to parents well in advance. Additional days during the year for staff training and development (INSET) will also be notified as far in advance as is possible.
Holidays should not be taken during term time. Where absence is wanted during school time, it is important to request authorisation from the school in advance, however absence should not be requested in terms 1 or 5, in line with local authority policy.
An appropriate ‘absence from school’ form should be requested from the school office and a maximum number of 10 days may be granted at the discretion of the Headteacher. However, new legislation in 2013 means that no requested absence is to be authorised unless in exceptional circumstances. Significant unauthorised absence may trigger involvement of the education welfare service, or if extensive, a fixed penalty notice. There are clear links between attendance and achievement and taking time off school will disadvantage your child’s learning.
Any absences for appointments (doctors, dentists, hospitals, etc.), which are known in advance, should be noted to the class teacher. Other absence from school should be notified on the first day with a note or telephone call explaining reasons.
