Health

Members of staff take the issue of health and welfare of individual children very seriously and make every effort to ensure that each pupil develops in a healthy and appropriate way.

If a child becomes unwell during the school day, we use a common sense approach and if we feel it is appropriate we contact the parents and request that he/she is taken home.  It is the policy of the school to inform parents whenever there has been significant head injury.

If there is a suspected fracture or a need for emergency care we will implement our Ambulance/Hospital procedure and contact parents immediately!

NB.      Parents’ daytime contact number must be kept up to date.

Medication

Members of staff are not permitted to administer tablets or medicine to children in school.  The general rule being that if children are still in need of medication, they are not completely recovered from illness and should remain at home until they are fit and well. For short term medication which can be self-administered, this needs to be arranged through the school office. Children with a particular long term illness are regarded as a special case and parents are advised to approach the Head in these circumstances. Parents of any children with a long term illness who need to take medication in school, will need to fill out a permission for medication form and medical care plan.

Children who suffer from asthma are allowed to bring the necessary reliever medication (inhaler), which is kept in a secure place (Office) but easily accessible at all times by the user. It is very important that we are given full information if your child needs to have an inhaler in school. We maintain an up-to-date list of children who are at risk of having an asthma attack.

Playtime

Playtime snacks are permitted and should be kept separate from the "lunch box".  We take the view that as children are developing and growing, they occasionally need a food intake, but we expect a sensible/healthy attitude to this. The mid morning snack should be a healthy option, avoiding sugary foods or foods high in salt.

Chewing/Bubble Gum is NOT allowed in school. No crisps, sweets or chocolate are allowed as a snack.

School Dinners

School meals are served from 12 noon onwards and the children collect their meal (cafeteria style) to be eaten in the main hall. Our school meals are very popular with the children served by experienced staff from our own kitchen. There is always a good selection of food available and standard of presentation, quality and balanced diet are high.

Children with special dietary needs can be catered for in consultation with the Kitchen Manager, Mrs Pope.   Please come to the office to discuss this.

Please follow this link to the School Meals page where a menu  and details on how to pay for your school meals can be found.
