RAYSFIELD JUNIOR SCHOOL

Infant Liaison
For pupils transferring from the neighbouring Infant School a very busy and effective programme of visits is worked out for the summer term - prior to admission in September. Our Year 3 teachers consult with Infant colleagues and many visits and swaps are worked out to ensure that the new Year 3s are very familiar and happy with their "new" school.
Secondary Liaison
For children moving on to Secondary School at the end of Year 6 there are detailed arrangements sent out to parents during the early part of the Autumn term. This information allows parents/children to make the important choice for Secondary education. Decisions are normally required by the end of October.
As the children move on through their final term at Raysfield (Summer term prior to transfer) visits to school are organised to allow Secondary colleagues the opportunity to find out full details about their new pupils. Towards the end of the Summer term special "Link Days" are organised which enables our Year 6 pupils to spend two full days at their new school. Full information is sent out to parents giving details about these special arrangements
The Local Community
The school plays an active part in the life and vitality of the local community and makes a significant contribution to many local events during the year. The events are varied and cover a wide spectrum of interest. In general the school supports local events, whenever possible, allowing the children to appreciate the fact that they belong to an active school in a developing wider community; giving the pupils a feeling of belonging and citizenship.
Inter-School Activities
The school takes a very active role in local events involving other schools. This contact with children from other schools is very important in enabling children to become part of "big events", as representatives of the school. These opportunities are often in sporting and musical areas. We are also part of a cluster of 7 local schools, who share good practice and provide termly enrichment activities, for children representing each school.
Outside Clubs
The school encourages children to develop individual skills and interests out of school and many of our pupils pursue a wide range of personal interests, including Gymnastics, Music, Brownies, Cubs, Swimming, Netball, Tag Rugby, Football, etc. Many of our pupils have achieved excellent results in various local, county and national competitions.
Such efforts are recognised as being an essential feature of developing the "whole child" and praise is appropriately given during a whole-school ‘celebrations’ assembly, each Friday.
