It is our aim to create positive attitudes towards good behaviour throughout the school.  We aim to offer opportunities for pupils to acquire effective habits of self-discipline, to encourage and reward high standards of conduct and good personal behaviour.

The one main rule for everyone in the school is:-

Raysfield Respects.

Respects yourself, respect each other, respect the school environment

Good behaviour, effort and achievement are celebrated through:

  • Praise and encouragement giving a feeling of success.

  • A positive experience at school with good friends.

  • ‘Golden time’ at the end of a week, to celebrate good behaviour.

  • Individual awards are presented for good behaviour, effort and achievement.

  • Merit certificates are awarded by the class teacher/ lunchtime supervisor for particular effort improvement or good behaviour and presented in assembly.

Inappropriate behaviour is discouraged through:

Name on the board    - warning

X against the name    - verbal warning and separation in class

XX against the name  - spend half an hour in another classroom, a lunch time detention is given and the class teacher sends a letter home to parents.

7 of these detentions in any one term would result in a fixed term temporary exclusion from school.

XXX against name      - sent to the Head teacher and parents notified

This procedure is followed on a daily basis and not built up over a week. If there is a serious incident parents are contacted immediately.

When working with teachers other than class teachers, the following sanctions are applied:

Using a class list;

Verbal warning

Yellow Card (yellow mark on class list)

Red Card (red mark on class list and sent to head / deputy) This is followed by a BREAK DETENTION and a letter home, from the head / deputy.

Further misbehaviour during the day will follow the same system.

A copy of Raysfield Respects is sent home at the beginning of each year for your child to read and discuss with you. This reminds of the expectations for good behaviours for learning and respect for all members of the school community.

Where children show consistent poor behaviour, the class teacher / headteacher would contact parents and set up a behaviour plan with specific targets and actions to bring about change.

In cases of more sustained or serious misbehaviour, this may even lead to temporary (or permanent) exclusions from school. (see above and details in the behaviour policy)
