Be Happy

When parents were asked what they aspired to most for their children, it is no surprise that top of the list was, "to be happy."

Building on much research into characteristics of 'happy' people, we aim to develop these characteristics in our children. Together, these 'ten keys to happier living', spell out our 'Great Dream.'

Following our vision

to 'learn to care,'

we believe that

being happy starts

with giving ourselves

to each other,

instead of simply

thinking what we will

'get'. We encourage

this through termly

charity events and the behaviour code of 'Raysfield Respects,' where we expect children to respect each other.

Belonging to teams and working collaboratively help children learn to relate.

Sport and active play encourage children to enjoy exercise.

Hands on science, art, geography, walk-to-school weeks, photography and thoughtful collective worship help children appreciate the world around them.

In all things, they are encouraged to try anything and enjoy new learning opportunities.

Self assessment, 'pink to think' marking and targets help children have a sense of direction and goals to aim for.

Children are encouraged to try anything and learn from mistakes and in supporting each other, they build a resilience to bounce back from problems and challenges.

Ending days with '5 good things' and positive comments on their own and others' work, help children to take a positive approach.

Celebration of uniqueness and individual skills, ideas and achievements encourage children to be happy with themselves. Every opportunity to come together as the school community, represent the school, or think about their own beliefs about the world around them, create a sense of not being alone; being a part of something bigger .
